Tracking keywords

Add and discover keywords

Type keywords, import a CSV, or let Keyword Discovery find them in your store listing, then read the keyword table.

Updated · For AppRankHero 1.0.2 on macOS

Keywords are tracked per app and per country. You can type them, import them, or let AppRankHero suggest them from your store listing.

Type your keywords

  1. Open an app in the sidebar and stay on the Keywords tab.
  2. Choose a country in the country pill of the toolbar. New keywords go to the selected country. With All selected, they go to the first country of the app.
  3. Click + Keywords.
  4. Type or paste your keywords, separated by commas, new lines or semicolons. The dialog shows how many are ready to add.
  5. Click the Add button, which shows the number of keywords. AppRankHero checks each keyword right away and fills in its rank, popularity and difficulty.

Click Scan instead of Add to first see popularity, difficulty and your rank for each candidate, and add only the good ones.

Let Keyword Discovery find them

Keyword Discovery reads your store listing (the app name, subtitle, keyword field, promotional text and description), extracts the words and phrases in it, and checks each one.

  1. Open the … menu in the toolbar and choose Keyword Discovery.
  2. Watch the table fill in with POP (popularity), DIFF (difficulty) and RANK. You can Pause, Continue or Stop at any time.
  3. Select the keywords you want and click Import selected (the button shows how many), or click Import all ranked to take every keyword you already rank for.

Advanced Keyword Discovery does the same and also includes keywords AppRankHero already knows for this app. Use Export CSV in the discovery window to keep the full list.

Import a CSV

Choose Import CSV from the … menu, or drag a CSV file onto the keyword table. The file needs a column named Keyword.

To copy keywords from one country to another, choose Transfer Keywords in the … menu. It appears when the app has more than one country.

Read the keyword table

Column What it shows
KEYWORD The search term. Pinned keywords stay at the top.
LAST UPDATE When the keyword was last checked.
RANK Your position: 1 to 200 on the App Store, 1 to 30 on Google Play. Empty when you are not in that range.
S NEW when you entered the ranking, OUT when you dropped out of it.
CHANGE How many positions you moved in the period of the period pill: 24h, 7d or 28d.
POPULARITY How often people search for it, 0 to 100.
DIFFICULTY How hard it is to rank, 0 to 95.
COMPETITORS Icons of the apps that rank for this keyword. Click one to see its keywords.
RELEVANCE Your own 0 to 100 rating. Turn it on in Settings › Keyword Table › Show Relevance Column, then click a cell to edit it.

Click a column header to sort. Use the filter in the toolbar pill to narrow the table by popularity, difficulty, relevance and a minimum number of competitors. Reset Filters clears them. How the numbers are calculated is explained in How ranks are measured.

Pin, remove and select

Right click a keyword for Pin Keyword, Pin for This Region, View Statistics, Remove Keyword and Remove from All Regions. To act on many keywords at once, choose Select Keywords in the … menu, select them, and use the same actions.

Removing a keyword deletes its rank history in that country.

Keyword limits

A keyword counts once per country, so one keyword tracked in 5 countries counts as 5. Free tracks 500, Pro 10,000 and Studio 100,000, across the whole team. When an import would pass the limit, the upgrade dialog opens. See Plans and limits.

Questions and answers

Why does a new keyword show no rank?

Either your app is not in the top 200 (App Store) or top 30 (Google Play) for it in that country, or the check has not finished yet. Look at LAST UPDATE. If it is empty, click Refresh.

Can my AI assistant add keywords for me?

Yes, on Pro and Studio. Ask it to track keywords through the MCP server. Our server checks those keywords within a few minutes, even when the Mac app is closed.
