Connect ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools (MCP)
Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI or Windsurf to your AppRankHero data with the MCP server.
Pro and Studio include a hosted MCP server. Connect your AI tool once and ask about your ranks in plain language: which keywords dropped this week, who outranks you, what to track next.
Before you start
- A Pro or Studio plan and its license key, which starts with
ARH. See Activate your license key. - The server address. It is the same for every tool:
https://apprankhero.com/mcpThere is nothing to install. The server speaks Streamable HTTP and accepts two ways to sign in:
- Sign in with your license key (OAuth). ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity open an AppRankHero page where you paste your key.
- License key in a header. Developer tools send
Authorization: Bearer ARH-XXXXfrom their config. ReplaceARH-XXXXwith your key.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps (Connectors on some plans).
- Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode, then choose Create.
- Name it AppRankHero, paste the server URL and set Authentication to OAuth.
- Click Connect. An AppRankHero page opens. Paste your license key, pick a team if you have several, and click Connect.
Developer mode needs a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise plan. Menu names may vary slightly.
Claude
- In Claude, open Settings (Customize in newer versions), then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector and paste the server URL.
- Click Connect. An AppRankHero page opens. Paste your license key and click Connect.
This works on claude.ai and in Claude Desktop. The Claude Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an owner adds it in the organization settings.
Claude Code
Run this in your terminal with your license key in place of ARH-XXXX. The --scope user option makes AppRankHero available in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http apprankhero \
https://apprankhero.com/mcp --scope user \
--header "Authorization: Bearer ARH-XXXX"Start Claude Code and run /mcp to check the connection.
Codex
Add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.apprankhero]
url = "https://apprankhero.com/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "ARH_TOKEN"Then export your license key as ARH_TOKEN. Add the line to ~/.zshrc so it stays:
export ARH_TOKEN=ARH-XXXXRestart Codex. The same config covers the Codex CLI, the Codex IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app. Prefer one command? This writes the same entry:
codex mcp add apprankhero --url https://apprankhero.com/mcp \
--bearer-token-env-var ARH_TOKENCursor
Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json (create it if needed), add the entry and save. AppRankHero shows up in Cursor Settings under MCP. For one project only, use .cursor/mcp.json in the project folder.

}
}
}
}VS Code
Create .vscode/mcp.json in your project, or run MCP: Open User Configuration to add it everywhere. VS Code asks for your license key once and stores it securely. Then open Copilot Chat in Agent mode and enable the AppRankHero tools.

}Gemini CLI
Run the command with your key, or add the same entry to ~/.gemini/settings.json by hand. Then start Gemini CLI and run /mcp.
gemini mcp add --transport http -s user \
-H "Authorization: Bearer ARH-XXXX" \
apprankhero https://apprankhero.com/mcpWindsurf
Open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json (newer installs use ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json), add the entry, save, then refresh the MCP servers in Cascade.

}Any other MCP client
Add a remote server with the URL and the Streamable HTTP transport. Send your key as a header, or choose OAuth and sign in with it. Zed, Cline, LM Studio, Perplexity and Raycast work this way.

Transport Streamable HTTP
Header Authorization: Bearer ARH-XXXXWhat your AI can do
| Tool | What it does |

Lists the team's apps on both stores. |
arh_app_rankings |
Current ranks, popularity and difficulty for an app. |
arh_rank_history |
Rank history of keywords over a number of days. |
arh_competitors |
The apps that rank for your keywords. |
arh_report |
A daily, weekly or monthly rank report. |
arh_search_keywords |
Popularity, difficulty and your rank for new keyword ideas. |
arh_search_store_apps |
Searches the App Store and Google Play. |
arh_list_tracked_keywords |
The keywords you track, per country. |
arh_track_keywords |
Starts tracking keywords. |
arh_untrack_keywords |
Stops tracking keywords. |
arh_add_app |
Adds an app to the team. |
Keywords your AI tracks are checked by our server within a few minutes, even when the Mac app is closed.
Teams and roles
Your AI works with the team of your license key. If you are in several teams, pick one on the sign in page, or send an X-Team-Id header with the team's id. Viewers can read but not change apps or keywords. See Teams and roles.
Disconnect
Remove the connector in your AI tool, or delete the entry from its config file. Replacing or revoking your license key disconnects every tool that uses it.
Questions and answers
Does the MCP server work on the Free plan?
No. It needs Pro or Studio. Free accounts have no license key, and the key of a plan that has ended stops working for AI tools.
Does my AI see other people's data?
No. Every request is tied to your license key and only sees the teams you belong to.
