Troubleshooting ranks not updating

What to check when ranks look old, stay empty, or a refresh is slow, on the App Store and on Google Play.

Updated · For AppRankHero 1.0.2 on macOS

Ranks update on a schedule and when you refresh. When they look stuck, these checks find the cause in almost every case.

1. Check when the keyword was last updated

Hover over or read the LAST UPDATE column. If it shows today, the rank is current, the store simply has not moved. If it is old or empty, continue below.

2. Refresh by hand

  1. Open the app and choose a country in the toolbar pill, or All for every country.
  2. Click Refresh.
  3. A worker panel opens at the side of the window and shows the progress. Leave the app open until it finishes.

For every app at once, go to Settings › All Projects. Click Run Now next to Run Daily Update to check only keywords not checked today, or Refresh All next to Refresh All Keywords to check everything again.

3. Check the automatic update

On every plan the Mac app refreshes once a day by itself, while it is open.

  • In Settings › Automatic Update, make sure Automatic Keyword Update is on.
  • Check the Scheduled Time (11:00 by default). If your Mac is usually closed or asleep at that time, choose a time when it is open.

On Pro and Studio our server also refreshes your apps every morning, starting at 01:00 UTC, even when your Mac is off. If that does not happen, check that every member of the team has a paid plan, because a team with one Free member gets Free limits. See Plans and limits.

4. An empty rank is not always an error

An empty RANK means your app is not in the top 200 on the App Store, or not in the top 30 on Google Play, for that keyword in that country. OUT in the S column means it was ranked before and dropped out. On Pro and Studio, a keyword that stayed unranked in three server refreshes in a row is checked by the server every third day until it ranks again, so its date can be up to three days old. See How ranks are measured.

5. Google Play refreshes are slower

Google Play limits how fast anyone can search. When it pushes back, our workers pause Google Play for about a minute and then continue. A refresh of many Android keywords takes longer than on the App Store, but it finishes.

6. Check your version and the status page

  • Google Play apps need AppRankHero 1.0.2 or later. Update with App Rank Hero › Check for Updates….
  • Look at the status page. If the workers or the store checks are degraded, ranks catch up once they recover.

7. Many failed checks during a refresh

If a refresh reports many failures, give the stores more time between searches in Settings › Worker Configuration: lower Parallel Workers, or raise Keyword Pause. The defaults are 4 workers and an 8 second pause. A busy network, a VPN or a content filter can also block store searches.

Questions and answers

I added keywords through my AI tool. When do they get a rank?

Within a few minutes. Our server checks keywords added through the MCP server on its own, even when the Mac app is closed.

My rank changed in the app but not in my report.

Reports use the latest ranks at the time they are sent. On the Free plan ranks refresh while the app is open, so a report sent before your daily refresh shows the day before.
